Grant Opportunity: Building Storage Capacity in Iowa Food Bank Food Pantries and Community Meal Sites

The Iowa Food Bank Association, in partnership with Feeding America Food Banks serving Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa Waste Reduction Center, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has announced a grant opportunity for food pantries and community meal sites being served by the following food banks: Food Bank for the Heartland, Food Bank of Iowa, Food Bank of Siouxland, Food Bank of Southern Iowa, HACAP Food Reservoir, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, River Bend Foodbank, and St. Stephen’s Food Bank. This opportunity seeks to build storage capacity within emergency feeding agencies serving Iowa. New in 2016: Eligible agencies were limited to food pantries and/or community meal sites. Grants were awarded up to but not exceeding $1,000 for the purchase of an ENERGY STAR qualified freezer, refrigerator, or combination unit.

The Iowa Food Bank Association invites qualified food bank agency partners to apply for an Iowa Food Bank Agency Storage Capacity Grant. Criteria for participation and important dates are listed on the cover sheet of the attached grant application. Completed applications must have been submitted electronically (Microsoft Word or PDF) by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016. Awards were announced early April, 2016.
