Sorrell will lead statewide advocacy and partnership efforts to strengthen food access for all Iowans
The Iowa Food Bank Association (IFBA) is pleased to announce Katie Sorrell as its’ new Executive Director, effective December 1.
With more than two decades of experience in food security and nutrition education, Katie brings a proven record of impact from her work as a Registered Dietitian at Iowa State University, University of California San Diego, and the Iowa Department of Public Health.
In her previous role at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Katie led Growing Together Iowa, a state-wide donation gardening program that provided over 100,000 pounds of fresh produce each year to local food pantries. Katie also led a team of Healthy Food Access Specialists. aligned with food banks, that encouraged and supported healthy changes in partner food pantries.
“I’ve worked with Katie for a number of years, and I’m excited for the passion and energy she brings to this role,” says Kim Guardado, Iowa Food Bank Association President. “We hope to bring awareness of hunger to the next level and elevate the voices of our neighbors throughout the state.”
As Executive Director, Katie will lead advocacy efforts, build partnerships and leverage best practices—continuing the work of advancing our mission to ensure all communities have access to food.
